It’s only September, but we’re already seeing hints of Black Friday 2016. Both Walmart and Toys"R"Us have already released their top toy picks and we expect to see our first Black Friday 2016 ad leak in about a month.
While most people love a good holiday deal, some are wondering why Black Friday seems to start earlier each year. As it turns out, the reason comes down to us.
Increases Sales
Each year, retailers launch their Black Friday sales and holiday ads a little bit earlier. Why? Simply, because it increases sales.
For example, Toys"R"Us revealed their “2015 Holiday Hot Toy List” on September 9 last year, and they saw a 2% increase in sales. This was the first time in four years the toy retail saw growth in holiday sales.
This seems to have inspired Toys"R"Us and Walmart to release their top toy picks even earlier this year. Walmart unveiled their choices on September 1 and Toys”R”Us revealed theirs on September 7.
Shows Retailers What to Stock
Many retailers also release holiday deals and products early to gauge consumer interest. Last year, Disney released its Star Wars products in early September, and it gave retailers valuable information about what (and how much) to stock in their stores.
For this reason, starting the holiday shopping season earlier actually works to our benefit, as we are less likely to miss out on picking up sought-after products later in the holiday season.
You may love it or you may hate it, but it looks like the holiday shopping season will continue to have an earlier start date. Here at BlackFriday.com, we have no problem with starting our holiday shopping a little bit earlier.
